Facilities at Park Lodge Newmarket
Park Lodge Stables based in the heart of Newmarket is home to Internationally renowned and multiple group race winning trainer, James Eustace, who has given one of Newmarket’s oldest racing yards a major boost, with Olympic technology by Andrews Bowen.
The yard is centrally located for the extensive gallops that are on either side of Newmarket. The land is owned and well maintained by Jockey Club Estates.
After enjoying success in training racehorses across two continents, James has updated the facilities at his 200-year-old Park Lodge yard, with a state-of-the-art trotting ring. He said: “I needed a new trotting ring and I was impressed by what I saw at Greenwich, during the 2012 Olympics. I found out that Andrews Bowen provided the arena surfaces so after some research, I knew they were the team I needed.”
With wins at Royal Ascot, Newmarket, Goodwood, Ebor, York, Newbury and in Germany, France and Dubai, James knows a winning formula, when he sees it. “I also knew the National Heritage Centre for Horse Racing and Sporting Art at Palace House, Newmarket had the Andrews Bowen GP surface in its Peter O’Sullevan Arena and that gave me a lot of confidence in the product,” said James.
“After that, I was convinced so I consulted with the Andrews Bowen team and opted for the same GP waxed surface, as the heritage centre.”
The Andrews Bowen GP Mix one of the most versatile and forgiving training blends, which uses multi-washed silica sand, wax and fibre to provide a low-maintenance, dust free surface.
Using the trotting ring two to four times a day, a major factor for James was completing it as quickly as possible, especially since the old area needed to be drained and new drainage had to be installed. Despite the scope of the job, Andrews Bowen completed the trotting ring in just 10 days, following some preliminary work.
James said: “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. There was very little disruption. The drainage is excellent and the surface itself is performing very well. The guys that carried out the work were incredibly professional and they were good communicators, keeping me informed at every step so I always knew exactly how work was progressing.”
