Ten years of Horse of the Year Show Surface Supplier

Andrews Bowen are proud to be the chosen surface supplier to the prestigious Horse of the Year Show for the tenth consecutive year this year.

Every October, Birmingham’s NEC is transformed into an equestrian utopia as Horse of the Year Show fills 50 acres of the site with thrills, spills, and world class entertainment. The finale to the showing year and the climax to the domestic show jumping year.

Horse of the Year Show remains a National Institution, It is a place to which all horse owners and riders aspire. Since the move to the NEC, HOYS has developed and expanded experiencing record numbers visiting the Show every year. Having celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2013, today’s Show welcomes 1,600 horses and ponies, 1,500 competitors and 65,000 spectators.

Logistically the show is very complicated as the show takes up over 50 acres of the NEC complex, consisting of four arenas and link ways totalling over 9,000m2. With 1,800 tonnes of Andrews Bowen 2012 surface, delivered on 62 articulated Lorries, plus 4 low loaders and 3 Andrews Bowen Prograde maintenance machines. Initially installed by 20 workers over approximately 5 days, ready for the arrival of over 1,600 horses and ponies.

Horse of the Year Show features a complete pop up arena with Equaflow sub-base replacement layer. Consisting of 1250m2 Equaflow, with Duralock fencing perimeter.

With detailed preparations for a large scale Equestrian competition taking place over 6 months ahead of the main event, a great amount of effort is put into ensuring the arenas’ are of excellent quality.
